I have a soundmax and it makes awful distorted sounds on playback with Vista. I think the drivers are just very buggy and break easily. Some people are lucky, but many people can't get this adapter to work. I have an M-audio Delta, integrated Soundmax, and an old Creative Audigy that I put back in my system to get sound. The only one of these three that works is the Audigy (Vista drivers available at creative.com).

If you want good sound for Vista, I'd get an Audigy I or II, which are dirt cheap used. Don't get an X-fi, they are not really any better and have had lots of problems.

Hi daflory Many thanks for your response regarding the SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. From what sound/devices I've used so far, I have not had any problems but I used to have the soundMAX disabled and prior to installing Vista Beta 2, I used my Creative Audigy LS PCI soundcard which I liked very much but I could not get the drivers to9 work in Vista so I enabled the SoundMAX audio again.

You said that the drivers for the Audigy are available from Creative? Will they work with my Audigy LS card? Regards Brave01Heart. This download is a beta driver providing Microsoft® Windows® Vista 32-bit and 64-bit Beta Build 5231 support for Creative Sound Blaster® Live! 24-bit and Sound Blaster Audigy® LS.

It is not fully tested and provides limited functionality. Take note of the following: • THIS IS AN UNSUPPORTED BETA DRIVER. There is no technical support for this driver. • We recommend that only experienced users install this driver. Do not install this driver for critical tasks. • This download supports Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit Beta Build 5231 and may not work on other Vista builds.

I too had the NO SOUND issue and it was driving me crazy. I read several post here about the sound problem. I too had a red X by my speaker icon and no sound. I downloaded the driver several times for SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio. It did no good; my system would not recognize the driver. The error message from the red X continued to say I had no Audio device loaded. I called HP support.

After an hour and a half and three Indian foreign specialist, I was told that they knew of the problem and it was a Microsoft support issue, not their HP machine. They stated that there was not yet a driver out for Vista. Go figure huh? You gotta love those Indian guys. “tank you vedy much”. I went to the driver section so I could look at the list to draw from.

I chose the “Browse for driver software on your computer”. When I went to that screen, instead of hitting the browse button I chose the option below called “Let me pick from a list of device drivers”. When I was brought to the next screen there were two drivers to choose from. I saw my driver and tried that one. Rats, it still did not solve the problem. I repeated the steps above and chose the other driver instead, I chose the ‘High Definition Audio device”. I got a warning that it was not a correct copy and it might cause instability I figured this was the driver for the HDTV devise but I chose it anyway.

The red x went away from my speaker icon which was progress but still no sound. I then repeated the steps aboveproceeded to RE-LOADED my SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio driver. The system told me to reboot. I did and gentlemen, I had sound.

My music never sounded so good. I believe the problem is that if your system thinks you have the correct driver, it does not reload it. But by changing drivers then going back to the original driver, it forced the system to re-load it. Who knows, after all, I am not a certified geek (Just a closet geek). Your mileage may vary. Hello, I just purchased my pc a few days ago. I too have had a few little problems with this issue.

Thankfully my mobo provider is on top of things. I don't know if this is of any use. This is for an Asus motherboard, and is a beta so results will definately vary. Hope this link helps some people.

It's worth a shot. It works for me other then when i am using the microphone. That part is a pain in the backside. But seems to be related to a bug the beta. I have to reinstall the drivers every time i want to use the microphone.

I did notice that when one option in the speaker panel drops off the list my microphone no longer works. All the microphone business aside the sound works just fine minimal distortion and such. Beta Version V6.10.1.6100 2007/02/02 update OS Vista 32bit / Vista 64bit Description AudioADI610x6100_Vista.zip SoundMAX ADI Audio Driver v6.10.1.6100 for 32bit Windows Vista,v6.10.2.6100 for 64bit Windows Vista. File Size 5.8 (MBytes). I am in similar situation and it drives me crazy. I bought a new pc with the following spec: ASUS P5B-E PLUS with onboard sound card ADI AD1988A high definition audio CODEC; INTEL CORE 2 DUO; Windows XP Professional x64 Edition I also bought M-Audio Delta 1010 because the company said they had a beta driver for 64bit pc.

I tried to install it with and without enabling the onboard sound card. Both times after I installed the driver and tried to play some music, it only had buzzing sound. The computer also rebooted over and over again. When I checked the device manager, it said the sound card was working properly. I wonder whether it's the problem with the beta driver. Is there anyone having this problem? I am in a dilema that I don't know what to do.

Should I return the Delta 1010 and install my old Audigy 2 to this new pc? Or should I keep the Delta 1010 and wait for another driver for 64bit pc? You know M-Audio is one of the companies selling professional sound equipment and the beta driver was released one and a half years ago. Should it have a more stablised driver for 64bit pc? Anyone any ideas? Please help!!! Thanks WalletGibbons.

There is a temporary fix for blurred audio and when audio starts when Windows boots up then stops rapidly for no reason. All ytou need to go is go to: Control Panel ->Hardware and Sound ->Sound Right click on your 'SoundMax integrated. ' then go to Properties. Then go to advanced. After that its going to give you a combo drop menu with codecs in it. Change the codecs to something else and hit apply it might give you a warning message. That should fix the problem instead of you having to keep restarting your computer to get sound for 10-30 minutes then losing it all. At least it worked for me anyway.

I'm having the issue where im stuck on 2.0 stereo, i have tried tims suggestion but it does not work. I'm using a Striker Extreme and Vista 64 bit home premium as OS. I tried the latest beta version driver, the one that came with my mobo install cd and several others i found on Asus and they either Gave no sound or were stuck on 2.0 However when i configure my playback device i can hear the test sounds on all my speakers, but in any other application the sound will only come from the front speakers.

Anyone have any new suggestions on how to solve the problem? Ok, I'm not technologically savvy as most people, but I've been having the same problems as most.Installed Vista and Soundmax suddenly wasn't working for me....I got it to work for me a bit, but naturally it stopped on me if I paused a song/video and I had to restart the sound playback in order to continue playing sound!!!! (you can imagine how anoying that was!!) Anyway, I FINALLY FIXED it and its working great! (no red X on my soundmax icon on the task bar!!) and I really wanted to share what I did. Basically • Download Vista audio driver package for Intel (or for whatever your desktop is) ----- **I don't remember where I found mine, try googling audio drivers for your desktop model!***• Uninstall Soundmax in Device Manager (Control Panel >Sound >Device Manager) • Restarted my computer • IGNOREthe message that tells you that windows is installing a new device software!!!!!!

• Installed Vista audio driver package Whatever happens, don't let Windows search and install a software for you, you have to do it yourself! Now, again, I'm not savvy, I did ALOT of damage to my computer before I hit this jackpot, and believe me its a jackpot because for the first time since installing Vista my computer restarted with audio and soundmax working and functioning 100% If anyone has more insight into this issue, please help! I tried to explain as best as I could! I know how frustrating it was for me, so I can imagine what others are going through!!!! I had the same problem when I did a hot install to revitalize Vista Ultimate, the sound driver was nowhere! So I downloaded the current AC`97 package, decompressd it, then BEFORE INSTALLING, I SET THE COMPATIBILITY FOR: SETUP.EXE,%dir% SYS CleanUp.exe,%dir% sys DSndUp.exe, AND * SMAXWDM W2K_XP SMax4PNP.exe, ALL SET FOR 'WINXP SP2', AND EVERYTHING INSTALLED CORRECTLY, AND I HAVENT HAD A PROBLEM! Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in~ now I am having a problem with my optical mouse blipping and crashing.help?

File Size 5.8 (MBytes) There is actually a slightly newer driver found in ASUS support. Version 6110.6180 I had it for a long time now and it worked since I do not remember when I installed but it was in the late 2007 after it was released.

Before I had the earlier (above) driver - and that one worked also - however I 'think' (if I remember correct) that this version solved some issues. Anyhow - it is worth a try (especially you guys who write about mic problems - I have absolutely 'nada' of such problems) P.S. You have to search for 'P5B' and chose 'vista edition' - then look under 'AUDIO' (2 files).

This is political problem not technical. Free Drivers Xp Windows there. They want you to buy a new hardware and new software. I have dell 8400 and i have Windows 7. But: YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD ANY SOUNDMAX DIGITAL BLA BLA. MANUALLY INSTALL DRIVERS LIKE TIM SAID ABOVE ITS NOT GONNA WORK FOR BEGINNING.

(its said to me devise can not start code 10) THEN CLICK ON SPEAKER ON TOOLBAR AND LET WINDOWS UPDATE TO FIX A PROBLEM WINDOWS UPDATE WILL TELL YOU: NO DRIVER NEEDED. Driver Android Phone Htc. AFTER REBOOTING DRIVER WILL WORK FINE:).
